GENEVIEVE WATTERS,
B.Soc.Sc, M. Phil, M.A.
Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist
From a background of social science, gender studies and philosophy I began in 2007 to train as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist. I worked as a psychoanalytically informed psychotherapist in Dublin from 2010 - 2013 before making the move to Cork where I have established my private practice.
I work with young people, over the age of 16, and adults of all ages and experiences.
I am a registered member of APPI (Association for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy in Ireland) and the iCP (Irish Council for Psychotherapy). I received my M.Phil in Psychoanalytic Theory from Trinity College, Dublin and my M.A. in Psychoanalysis (Clinical Specialisation) from Independent Colleges, Dublin. I have completed the internationally recognised ASIST training for suicide intervention, am fully insured and have been vetted by An Garda Síochaná to work with children and vulnerable persons.
My special area of interest is the application of psychoanalytic theory and technique in neuroscience to further our knowledge and understanding of the brain.
I have published articles on acting out in adolescence and suicidal ideology and presented talks on parenting the modern teenager, love in 'Lars and The Real Girl', masculinities in 'Fight Club' and the plight of the feminine in 'A Streetcar Named Desire'.
